Girls Inc. of Huntsville welcomes new Program Operations Manager


We have a new addition to our staff! Please join Girls Inc. of Huntsville in welcoming our new Program Operations Manager, Regina Jamar Burden!

Regina is an experienced administrator that has spent the last 25 years dedicating her life to the improvement of students’ lives and education.  Ms. Burden’s experience in higher education began at Alabama A&M University where she served as a staff member with TRIO Programs in 1994, and continued as she progressed to become a Program Specialist/Academic Advisor for low-income, first-generation students. She later joined the staff at Motlow State Community College where she served as the Director of Disability Services before being promoted to Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs.

She most recently worked at Drake State Community and Technical College where she served as the Dean of Student Services.  Prior to Drake State, Ms. Burden served as the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs at Tuskegee University. While there she had direct oversight of admissions, records, housing and residence life, student life, counseling, recruiting, student health, fitness, career development and placement, testing and dean of students. She supervised and coached a staff of 70 people.

Ms. Burden has worked for the federal government, as well as private and state institutions, both community colleges and four-year institutions.  Her experiences include several years of successful progressive responsibilities in student affairs administration, leadership, strategic planning, federal programs, training, mediation and counseling, budget management, and enrollment growth to name a few.

Ms. Burden is no stranger to opposition and challenges, and she is a very passionate leader and prides herself on motivating and encouraging others to accomplish their goals. In addition to serving as an administrator, Ms. Burden has served as an instructor in the classroom. She believes that everyone deserves an opportunity to success. She is a strong, effective student advocate and mentor.  Ms. Burden is passionate about education and looks forward to positively impacting the lives of others!

Ms. Burden earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Alabama A&M University. She is currently a candidate for the Ph.D. in Urban Higher Education at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi.  Additionally, Ms. Burden previously served as a distinguished Maxine Smith Fellow; a program initiated through the Tennessee Board of Regents.

Ms. Burden is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. A native of Huntsville, Alabama, she is a member of Morris Chapel Church where she has served in multiple leadership roles.  She is the proud mother of adult twins, Preston and Prescott, and one daughter-in-love, April.
