[HUNTSVILLE, AL – May 13, 2019] Girls Inc. of Huntsville will host the Strong Girls 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run on Saturday, June 15 at 7 AM at MidTowne on the Park. This event brings together runners of all abilities together to support the girls of Madison County. Participants are encouraged to register early to receive a reduced rate, and to be entered to win a month of free classes from PureBarre Madison (a $200 value). Early bird registration ends on May 18, and all registration ends on June 11.
Running enthusiasts and all champions for girls are invited to participate or attend the event to raise funds for Girls Inc. of Huntsville programs. Sage Wellness Studio will be providing our pre-race warm up with an invigorating yoga session, so plan to get there early. Winners in each age group will be recognized at the end of the race. Supporters don’t have to live in the Huntsville/Madison area to participate in the Strong Girls 5K. We welcome out-of-town participants to complete a 5K run or walk in their own town, which allows them to be with Girls Inc. in spirit and help out Madison County girls from wherever they are.
As always, participants are encouraged to bring the entire family (even the dog!) to our stroller-friendly and dog-friendly course. The Strong Girls 5K is family-friendly with activities like the 1-Mile Fun Run, sponsored by Brenda Armstrong of Edward Jones Financial, which includes volunteers spraying race participants with squirt guns as they run the course.
Girls Incorporated of Huntsville provides vital after-school, summer, spring, and fall break enrichment and educational programs year-round to girls from kindergarten to 8th grade with the goal of equipping girls with the skills to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers, and grow up healthy, educated, and independent. Informed by girls and their families, we also advocate for legislation and policies to increase opportunities and rights for all girls.
